Let's begin this journey together
“There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” — Madeleine Albright
I feel so empowered lately with all the women’s marches that have been going on and with all the beautiful words coming from women of all cultures. I feel like now more than ever women need to stick together. We are fighting for our rights and fighting for our bodies.
As many of you know, I was raped a few years ago. I am one of those women who is fighting for her body and sense of worth. It is sad to hear all the women who have recently come out and shared their stories, but it is also uplifting. I don’t feel so alone in this, sometimes, cruel world.
Have you ever been drunk at a bar and go into the lady’s restroom and bond with another woman? “Girl, you are rocking that dress!” or “I love your hair! You look so good!” You automatically become best friends for those few minutes. So, my question is, why can’t we always be this way with each other? We are women, we go through the same things, inequality, sexism and so much more. We need to fight this together. It takes way more energy to judge another woman than to befriend her or even just give her some support. Why are we so threatened by other women? We should never hate on other women. Period. End of story.
If we want men to treat us with respect, then we need to treat each other with respect. We need to stop calling each other sluts, and whores, and bitches. It just gives men permission to call us those things. Let’s change the way we talk to each other. Lend a helping hand. Be supportive and always keep it positive. Let’s always be kind to each other. Kindness is contagious. Smile at each other.
Most importantly, believe each other.
When I started this blog, that was one of my biggest fears. Will people believe me? Will they think I’m just looking for attention? I think society has taught us to think that way. I think we need to change that and I think it starts with women believing one another. Our first thought shouldn’t be “is she telling the truth?”
I am here to tell you that I will always believe you. I will fight for you and I will fight with you. Always.
