When I hear the word “strong” a few people instantly come to mind. The first one being my wonderful grandma. She was the strongest person I knew. She overcame more than anyone I have ever met in my whole life. In my opinion, she was the true definition of strong.
The second person I think of is someone I am lucky enough to call a best friend. Chloe and I have been friends since we were very young. We met each other on the bus to school and have been friends ever since. Chloe is one of those people I consider to be strong. Her struggles are not my story to tell but I am here to tell you she is a true role model and I am proud to call her my best friend. I asked Chloe a few questions to answer about the word “strong” and what it means to her. Keep reading to find out what she had to say!
1.What does the word “strong” mean to you?
“She is everything she can be”
This phrase is on a sign in my bathroom. I see it every day when I wake up and when I go to bed. I always add to it “she is everything she can be and she can be strong”. This has become my daily mantra.
The word “strong” to me, means I am determined to keep going. I will not give up when things get hard and I will stand up for what I believe in. I have a strong personality, a strong work ethic and a strong relationship with those closest to me.
2.On the hardest days, what motivates you to get up and start your day?
I am extremely fortunate to have a job I love, a supportive family, a loving boyfriend, a healthy puppy, a nice car…. The list goes on, but sometimes, I just want to stay in bed all day. I would say the fact that you never know what a new day will bring is what motivates me. Every day is a new day and you can make it whatever you want it to be.
3.Is there anyone who inspires you to be strong?
Honestly, I don't think it is any one person. I grew up around many strong women. My mom is definitely my role model and if she can raise kids like my brother and I, I'd say she's pretty strong.
I would also say people in general. I work in television news and despite the fact that there are a lot of awful stories, we still get to tell stories of people's trials and triumphs. I'm always inspired by people who've had it rough but continue to push on and overcome.
4.What advice do you have for staying strong?
I would say to find a phrase you connect with that makes you feel like you can take on the world and repeat it over and over during weak or tough moments. Also, find time for yourself. Go for a walk or take a yoga class. Basically, being in touch with yourself and taking time for you will keep you grounded and strong.
Chloe also wrote this awesome poem that I would like to share with you all. Chloe is a truly talented person and I am so proud of her. She has helped me overcome a lot of the tough times in my life and I am truly grateful for her. I love you, Chloe!
